Shervon Laurice, MS, LCPC

I was born and raised in New York City, the oldest of three children. Ours was a highly religious family as our parents were preachers. It was the perfect environment for contemplation and asking the big questions. I became interested in helping others ask the big questions early on. My first job as a teen was as a peer counselor in my local community center during the AIDS crisis of the 1980’s. And I have been working with people to ask the hard questions ever since. During high school I was introduced to yoga and loved it. Though I didn’t understand at the time that it helped me manage my anxiety. I also quietly began the process of coming out as Bisexual during this time which opened up my world. And it was in college that I truly began to explore who I am. These events shaped my journey to becoming the person who I am today. For many years after college, I worked as a case manager and at crisis hotlines until I completed my graduate studies in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola University Maryland.

Sometime in my early 30’s, I began experiencing chronic pain, fatigue and digestive issues. After years of doctor visits, I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia, an autoimmune disorder. I learned through trial and error that I could heal myself using psychotherapy where a learned to better manage my thoughts & stress, yoga therapy where I learned to be in tune with my body’s rhythm and psychedelic therapy where I got to the root of what ailed my soul. Today, I bring everything I have learned to the work I with my clients.

With over 20 years of experience working with individuals living with depression, anxiety, PTSD and chronic pain, I know that healing is our birthright. And that true healing does not happen solely on one level of our being. Today, I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a Mindfulness Based Psychedelic Therapist (MBPT) and a certified Yoga Therapist. The combination of these modalities brings about transformational healing through a process of deep exploration and self-awareness to clear away the mud from the lenses through which we see ourselves, our lives, and the world around us.

First, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to you for taking the courageous step to begin your healing journey. As for me, my early years molded me into the family’s responsible caretaker, always prioritizing others’ emotional needs over my own. This role not only cultivated my resilience but also heightened my empathy, constantly tuning into the emotional states of those around me.

My journey into the counseling field was deeply personal, driven by a quest for self-understanding and the desire to facilitate healing in others. My upbringing, marked by the vibrant yet challenging circumstances of my community and my silent battles with ADHD and dyslexia, instilled in me a resolve to overcome systemic barriers. My response was to excel academically, turning my struggles into a mission for advocacy and resilience.

Growing up in the DC/Maryland area, I was profoundly influenced by a steadfast commitment to social justice, guiding me to significant roles in mental wellness and plant medicine advocacy. This dedication transformed me into a healer, utilizing my resilience to provide healing and empowerment. My evolution to outspoken advocate not only defines my therapeutic approach but also empowers me to champion the healing virtues of plants once stigmatized.

As a strategic thinker and perpetual learner, I have flourished in dynamic settings, amassing a wealth of knowledge and insights. My academic accomplishments include a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and certification as a Certified Plant Medicine Educator and Coach.

With more than a decade of experience, I am honored to work with people living with generalized and social anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD. I particularly enjoy working with first responders, college students and young adults to offer guidance and transformation on their mental wellness journey.

Embarking on a healing journey
Is a Brave Decision. ♡

I had been dealing with major depression for over a decade, and though therapy and medication provided some help, it was always temporary. Shervon’s holistic approach, combined with the emotional clarity provided by cannabis, allowed me to understand the root causes of my depression and maladaptive behaviors. With this clarity, I now have direction on how to improve my life and mental health. I highly recommend working with Shervon.

After working with her for some time, I began exploring the possibility of being autistic. She supported that journey, helping me to challenge unhealthy perceptions of myself, and integrate new life skills that have improved the quality of my life beyond my wildest dreams.

I was convinced by my past experiences that sharing all of who I am with a therapist would only be met with misunderstanding and judgement. Then, I found Shervon.

Shervon provides excellent tools and resources for addressing life’s challenges. Shervon listens with an open mind. I feel comfortable being myself and speaking my truth, even when the truth hurts. Her insight and advice lay the groundwork for self-healing and correction.

It was apparent that my marriage was failing. I was extremely unhappy, crying in the shower, crying in the car by myself, and was worried that I was not making good life decisions. I had tried therapy before, but it didn’t work. I was referred to Shervon, and slowly began to recognize that I could make changes, that I didn’t have to be this unhappy. Communicating with someone who was without judgement, but who could help me sort out where I was and what options I had was more than helpful; it helped me move forward.

I have been in and out of therapy for 21 years with lackluster results. In my extensive experience with many and varied therapists, Shervon has provided the highest quality of care, and has been the healthiest therapist relationship I’ve ever had. I am truly grateful for her and the services she is uniquely equipped to provide for people like me.

Shervon has been a pillar in my support system for a decade, helping me articulate the things I need and validating my right to need them. I’ve come to realize that this is one of the greatest gifts one can be given.

I am deeply grateful for Shervon’s presence in my life. Her professional skill and personal gifts of empathy and humor have supported me in times of difficulty, and have created a safe space as I make the journey of growing into myself.
